Here’s what’s included in a Level 2 Service…
Stage 1 – Full Inspection
This involves visually looking over all bicycle elements before any work commences.
- Handlebars are checked, and brake/gear levers are operated to gauge functionality.
- Wheels are checked to see if they are true and the spokes are tight.
- Tyres will be checked for serviceability and damage.
- Brake surfaces are looked at for wear and serviceability.
- Cables are visually inspected for obvious damage.
- The headset is tested for smoothness.
- The frame is then checked thoroughly for damage.
- The drive chain and gears/derailleurs are all inspected and toasted.
The results of the actions above are documented and form the basis of the service.
Stage 2 – Strip down
- The bike is then stripped of wheels, chain, cranks, derailleurs and brakes, which are all cleaned.
- The wheel hubs are serviced and greased.
- The frame is then cleaned, and the ball bearings serviced or replaced if required.
- The Forks are dropped from the head tube, and the headset bearings are greased or replaced.
Stage 3 – Reassembly
- The bike is then reassembled and fully set up.
- Any parts that were identified in the initial inspection will be replaced.
- Brakes are aligned, and gears are set up and indexed.
Stage 4 – Final Checks
- The bike is then thoroughly checked for torque and tolerances.
- The bike is test-ridden and signed off.
- The customer is notified the service is complete and the bike is ready for collection.
Considerations
- All bearings are serviced where possible and replaced if necessary. Other items, such as chain, brake pads, cables, etc., will be replaced if required.
- As the bike is separated into smaller parts, nearly all replacement parts and labour are included in the service.
- A handlebar swap is not included as this would involve stripping bar tape and removing brake/gear levers, which would not be typically disturbed during a service.
- When items need replacing during a service, the technician will typically film a quick video talking the client through the requirements. This is followed up with an email/quote so clients can choose how to proceed.
- Our workshop uses Muc-Off products during the service, which are available to purchase in-store.
- We use a checklist for every service carried out, and this is retained for future reference.
Timing
- A bike dropped off in the morning will typically be ready for collection the same day unless a service part is required, which we need to order.
Priority Appointments
- Service appointments will be specifically set aside for Service Plan subscribers, providing priority access to the Service Team.
