Cotswold Cycles is delighted to welcome back cycling journalist and author Chris Sidwells on Thursday 18th July 2024
On this visit, Chris will showcase the British Cycling Legend Barry Hoban.
It’s 50 years ago this year that Barry Hoban won the cobbled classic Ghent-Wevelgem; no British cyclist had ever done that before, and none have done it since. Over his career, Hoban also won eight stages of the Tour de France, and is still in second place on the all-time British Tour stage winners list, one place behind Mark Cavendish and one ahead of Chris Froome.
Chris will outline Hoban’s remarkable story, recalling many anecdotes shared while they wrote Hoban’s autobiography, Vas-y-Barry!
Hoban raced against many of cycling’s greats, including three of the four five-time winners of the Tour de France: Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx and Bernard Hinault. As a great observer, Hoban paints vivid pictures of the characters of all three and many others of his contemporaries.
Vas-y Barry is a fascinating book; many say reading it is like being on the bike with Barry.
Chris’s talk about Hoban’s life and cycling career is sure to make for a fascinating evening.
This exclusive event is your opportunity to connect with one of the industry’s most respected figures and gain unique insights into the legends of cycling.
Chris has worked as a cycling journalist for over 15 years, writing thousands of articles for newspapers, magazines, and websites worldwide and 20+ books.
